Cyclone Monica...Well, this is strange - a cyclone in April just does make sense. For us Darwinians its all just getting a bit spooky. The image here is a composite of the BOM sites latest infrared image and the closest match i could get with Google Earth, with a bit of distortion in photoshop and the clouds screen mode set to lighten. The text is just for dramatic effect, cause we are really freakin' out here! So please send us your prayers... and money, mostly money actually - don't worry about the prayers. Maybe a couple of choir singers, they would also be great for dramatic effect. So its settled, money and a choir - Thanks!

I had a bad feeling about this one. I mean, the last one that tore through Darwin was on Christmas freakin' Day, and here we are on Anzac Day, well overdue for a right bollocking. My balcony, unlike many along this stretch, has been emptied, my lounge crammed full of potplants.
And yet, on the morning of the cyclone I wake to the sounds of light breezes and no the shrill whine and banging of fury. The view out the window contained joggers and an old dude on a motorised wheelchair cruising the strip instead of bent over palm trees and caravans flipping over the edge of the cliff. Yet, every 15 minutes, the radio stations switch to the community message of impending doom. What the?
So I think I'll just play a computer game, comforted by the knowledge that my balcony contains no projectiles, my kitchen has 12 litres of drinking water, I have a bag of survival doritos and dip, and even when the inevitable arrives, I have plugged into a UPS and can maintain my state for at least ten minutes before being forced to acknowledge that the world is falling over.
Sorry I have no choir singers to contribute. But L-M can do a nice rendition of "down to the river to pray" for you.
